How did the summer fly by so fast?! There are back to school sales everywhere and my inbox is full of emails for discounts on everything from clothes to backpacks. As a girl who loves a good discount, I can’t exactly complain! However, I definitely feel as though summer is floating by quickly and fall will be here before I’ve microwaved my coffee for the third time!
I’m sitting here, staring at the most beautiful picture of a cottage in Idaho that was taken by a dear friend last fall. A bit of light through halfway bare trees, leaves scattered about a fading green lawn, this is the whimsical photo that stares back at me. It’s beautiful and it makes me so excited for the season that’s approaching.
Maybe it’s the red hair, maybe it’s the fair skin and freckles, all I know is that summer is always a bit off for me. Fall is more my bread and butter. I mean walking around with auburn colored hair automatically makes me fit in better! By August I am ready for sweaters, spicy scented candles, and crisp evenings filled with falling leaves and changing colors. The California temperatures don’t always agree with me, but luckily Cambria and the coast tend to oblige.
“Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.” ~Nora Ephron
This fall though, is definitely something special. This fall includes a pretty spectacular event for our little cottage family. We are welcoming in another little sprout! He’s supposed to make his appearance somewhere in mid October. (It’s a BOY!). We can’t wait! Our other Sprout is finally excited about having a brother. She had her heart set on a little sister she could twirl around in tutus with…pretty sure she’ll convince this little man to do that anyways!
With only 9 weeks or so to go, it has me thinking about seasons and new beginnings. This year has been quite the adventure. From surprise pregnancy (docs didn’t think we could have more…it will be almost exactly a year to the day that they told us “no more” sprouts, to the day our little man makes his appearance…), to the unexpected stroke and heart attack of Dave’s dad. We’ve faced new chapters, new normals, adjustments and unexpected things. After all of these things in the last 5 months, I’m reminded that seasons change. Life changes. Just like seasons of the year, each one holds different things. Life starts all over again, doesn’t it? That’s a good thing. Who wants to be stuck in any one season forever?
“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.”
– F. Scott Fitzgerald
